Arch Pain

Are you experiencing pain in the arches of your feet? We can help.

The arch of the foot is crucial in proper foot mechanics, the smooth transfer of weight from the heel to the toes, and overall posture.

This part of the foot is formed by a complex network of small joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles – all of which are reinforced by a band of tissue (plantar fascia) that connects the heel bone to the toes. This makes the arch extremely vulnerable to stress and damage. The most common causes of arch pain are either structural imbalances within the foot or a direct injury.

Painful symptoms that occur in this area are usually due to inflammation of the tissues within the mid foot, which can create imbalance in the normal mechanics and function of the arch.

Symptoms often include a burning sensation in the arch of the foot. When even small movements become painful, the body often compensates with changes to gait and posture – creating further problems.

Acute arch pain should be reported and treated as soon as possible. If you are susceptible to arch pain, it is important to avoid wearing high heeled shoes, and the ideal footwear should have shock absorbing soles.

We may recommend that you are fitted with orthotics to control over – pronation and offering the arch of the foot structural support.
